About Parmesan

Parmesan, or Parmigiano-Reggiano, comes from Italy and is made from cow’s milk. It has a hard, crumbly texture and a rich, nutty flavor that gets stronger as it ages. Younger Parmesan is milder, while aged ones (12–36 months) become sharper and more flavorful. It’s often grated over pasta or salads and loved for its savory taste and crunchy texture.

Pairings

Parmesan pairs perfectly with pasta, risotto, and soups, and tastes great with fresh fruits like pears, apples, and grapes. It also goes well with balsamic vinegar, honey, and nuts. For drinks, it’s best enjoyed with red wines like Chianti or Barolo, or even a sparkling wine like Prosecco for a lighter match.

Fun fact: A fun fact about Parmesan is that it’s sometimes called the “King of Cheeses” because of its rich flavor and long aging process. True Parmigiano-Reggiano can only be made in certain regions of Italy, and each wheel is carefully inspected before it’s certified. Some wheels are even aged for over 10 years.
