About Gouda
Gouda is one of the world’s most popular and widely consumed cheeses, originating from the city of Gouda in the Netherlands. Traditionally made from cow’s milk, it has a smooth, creamy texture and a mild, slightly sweet flavor that deepens as it ages.
Younger Goudas (aged 1–3 months) are soft and mild, perfect for melting in sandwiches or on burgers. Mature Gouda (aged 6–18 months) becomes firmer, with nutty and caramel-like notes, while very old Gouda develops crunchy protein crystals and a deep amber color.
Pairings
Gouda pairs beautifully with fruits like apples and pears, or with dark breads and honey. It complements wines such as Merlot, Chardonnay, or a full-bodied beer.
