About Emmental Cheese

Emmental, also known as Swiss cheese, is famous for its large holes and mild, nutty flavor. It has a smooth, slightly springy texture and a gentle sweetness that becomes stronger as it ages. Made from cow’s milk, Emmental melts easily, making it a favorite for sandwiches, fondues, and baked dishes.

Pairings

Emmental pairs perfectly with crusty bread, ham, and fresh fruits like apples and grapes. It also goes well with mustard, pickles, and light white wines such as Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc.

Fun fact:The holes in Emmental are created by natural gas bubbles formed during the cheese’s fermentation process. The cheese was first made in the Emme Valley of Switzerland, which is how it got its name.
